By Charlotte Keatley
Directed by Michelle Cooke
My Mother Said I Never Should by Charlotte Keatley is a powerful drama exploring the lives of four generations of women and the complex bonds between mothers and daughters.
Moving between the 1920s and the 1980s, the play examines how changing social expectations influence female identity, sacrifice, and the pressure of respectability.
Now marking 40 years since its 1987 premiere in Manchester, the play remains a landmark of contemporary theatre, highlighting how the internal conflicts of motherhood and family legacy continue to resonate across decades.
