Plucked from her quiet provincial upbringing, Catherine Morland is suddenly introduced to the complicated world of society. Overwhelmed, she tries to make sense of her new surroundings by imagining the Gothic romances which have been her all-consuming passion. With fantasies clouding her judgement, Catherine makes a number of alarming miscalculations with consequences as amusing as they are unsettling.
