Andre, a persecuted man, refuses to tolerate his circumstances any longer. His favourite watch is stolen by an unnecessary "helper," while his scheming daughter Anne tries to take away his beloved flat. His other daughter, Elise, never visits, and Anne's partner Pierre threatens violence if Andre doesn't cooperate. Strangers claim his flat is no longer his, and Andre, though aged, remains determined to assert his authority. However, his faculties may be fading as he experiences dementia, showcasing the harsh reality of physical and mental decline. Christopher Hampton's translation of Florian Zeller's "The Father" is a darkly humorous and poignant tragic-comic mystery, offering an unsentimental and emotionally intense portrayal of dementia's impact.
