This is the intriguing story of the German classical conductor Wilhelm Furtwängler. World War II is over and Germany is under the control of Britain, America, France and Russia. Nazi sympathisers are being rooted out and brought to justice. Was Furtwängler a sympathiser? Hitler certainly saw him as the cultural jewel in his crown. Is the ‘baton’ story true? Can Furtwängler be believed? American Major Steve Arnold, who has witnessed the horrors of Belsen, is about to cross-examine him.
