PRIVATE LIVES, THE PLAY ~ playing dates 25th - 28th September 2024
A 1930 comedy of manners in three acts by Noël Coward.
ROLE STILL TO BE CAST

Louise:  Amanda’s French-speaking maid. Her inability to speak any English at all and her incomprehension of the bizarre occurrences in the apartment provide a number of laughs. Ideally you will be able to pronounce French.

SHEILA’S ISLAND, THE PLAY ~ playing dates 27th - 30th November 2024
The first thing to say about this play is that a great deal of water is involved! The four ladies of the cast find themselves stranded on an island in the middle of Derwentwater having overturned their boat. Therefore the initial stage entrance is made through water! If you prefer the glamorous look on stage then this is not the role for you. You will be in outdoor gear and will divest yourself of your sopping wet clothes on stage. This will be done discreetly behind towels and is not a full monty job but you will be getting undressed on stage. You will change into a dry version of your outdoor clothes. It also should be said that whilst you won't be running around on stage you won't be sitting about on comfy settees either, a certain degree of physicality will be required.

Cast Breakdown
The cast comprises 4 female actors aged anywhere between 40yrs and 60yrs. They are middle-class, middle-aged, middle-management on a corporate team building exercise in the Lake District.

Sheila: The mother of twins. She is the cryptic crossword solving team leader who oozes common sense and tries to be all things to all people. She is endlessly cheerful and the peacemaker of the troupe.

Denise: Single, sardonic, wise-cracking, caustic, malcontent and resentful of her colleagues’ positions in life. She started out as a receptionist and worked her way up to management level.

Fay: A committed Christian and avid twitcher. She works in Finance and is kooky, dreamy and mentally fragile. Fay is required to sing but not to concert level.

Julie: Married to Angus. She is the super organised, no nonsense Human Resources Manager. Her industrial sized backpack resembles something from Mary Poppins as she has packed for every eventuality, except, it appears for that of being marooned on an island.
