Love's on trial in this stunning new drama from the playwright of Enron

Desperately in need of cash, two young volunteers take part in a clinical drug trial for a new anti-depressant. Under constant supervision, a fascinating and vibrant exploration into the human brain via the heart ensues as the two fall in love. The subjects and their doctors are all forced to question core beliefs about their innermost desires – or are these feelings  simply a side-effect caused by the new drug?

The scope of this play is breathtaking.  Playwright Lucy Prebble (Enron) explores the complex question of what love actually is whilst taking a wry look at society’s current obsession with pill-popping. Funny and moving, rich laugh-out-loud humour combines with some stunning one-liners. The Effect played to sell-out crowds and critical acclaim when premiered at the National Theatre in 2012. Now performed within the intimate confines of our Studio space, its emotional impact will be all the greater – don’t miss it!
