The Murder Room (Auditions)

A play by Jack Sharkey

Directed by Carla Stokes

Performance dates: 13 - 18 February 2023 (incl. Saturday matinee)

Two days after their wedding Edgar discovers that Mavis - a nasty piece of work - is being unfaithful.

After her first attempt to kill him by poisoning his cocoa fails when the cat dies instead, Mavis resorts to shooting him and then returning to her lover. Chaos and complications reign when it transpires that the shots were blanks and that Edgar's body has vanished.

The Murder Room spoofs the traditional "locked-room" murder mystery with mistaken identities, hysterical characters, fast paced action and witty, clever dialogue.

The Murder Room is set in the present time, early July and has the following cast:

> Edgar Hollister - mid 50s - A bit gullible or is he?
> Mavis Templeton - mid 50s - Not a nice woman at all.
> Lottie - 60s - Housekeeper. Not wonderful by any means.
> James Crandall - 40s - An inspector of police Not very clever.
> Abel Howard - middle aged - A police constable. Even worse than Crandall (OR IS HE?).
> Susan Hollister - 20/30s - Edgar’s daughter. A bit of an idiot really.
> Barry Draper - 30s - Susan’s American fiancé. Possibly the most sensible of them all.

Guide Bridge Theatre auditions are open to all. Whilst you can simply turn up for the auditions it would be helpful if you register that you are planning to audition for a play, and indicate which part(s) you are interested in. By return, we can supply script samples for the play(s) you are interested in auditioning for.

Please note. All actors offered a part in a GBT production must become an Active Member or Junior Friend (linked to an Active Member or Friend of Guide Bridge Theatre) no later than first rehearsal date. For more information see the Membership page of the GBT website.
