Oliver Goldsmith’s classic comedy of manners, misunderstandings and mis-intentions has kept it a favourite with amateur and professional companies and their audiences for over 230 years.
A young lady poses as a servant girl to win the heart of a young gentleman who is too shy to court ladies of his own class. Matters are complicated when, thanks to rich playboy Lumpkin, her father is mistaken by his prospective son-in-law for an innkeeper. Many delightful deceits and hilarious plot turns ensue.
