The story of the Pendle witches, as told through the relationships between the local magistrate Roger Nowell, his pregnant wife Judith, her friend Alice Nutter and Jennet, a young tearaway. Gossip and fear take hold of the Lancaster townsfolk after a local ‘wise woman’ curses a peddler who subsequently falls ill. Accusations fly against those seen attending a secret witches’ ‘Sabbat’
